چکیده

For the purpose of realizing a new intelligent system and its simplified VLSI implementation, we propose a new nonvolatile analog memory called “switched diffusion analog memory with feedback circuit (FBSDAM).” FBSDAM has linear writing and erasing characteristics. Therefore, FBSDAM is useful for memorizing an analog value exactly. We also propose a new analog content-addressable memory (CAM) which has neural-like learning and discriminating functions which discriminate whether an incoming pattern is an unknown pattern or a stored pattern. We design and fabricate the CAM using FBSDAM by means of the 4μm double-poly single-metal CMOS process and nonvolatile analog memory technology which are developed by us. The chip size is 3.1mm×3.1mm. We estimate that the CAM is composed of 50 times fewer transistors and requires 70 times fewer calculation steps than a typical digital computer implemented using similar technology. key words: nonvolatile analog memory, content-addressable memory, recognition, SDAM, analog technology

A CMOS Spiking Neural Network Circuit with Symmetric/Asymmetric STDP Function

SUMMARY In this paper, we propose an analog CMOS circuit which achieves spiking neural networks with spike-timing dependent synaptic plasticity (STDP). In particular, we propose a STDP circuit with symmetric function for the first time, and also we demonstrate associative memory operation in a Hopfield-type feedback network with STDP learning. In our spiking neuron model, analog information exp...

A VLSI Spiking Feedback Neural Network with Negative Thresholding and Its Application to Associative Memory

An integrate-and-fire-type spiking feedback network is discussed in this paper. In our spiking neuron model, analog information expressing processing results is given by the relative relation of spike firing. Therefore, for spiking feedback networks, all neurons should fire (pseudo-)periodically. However, an integrate-and-fire-type neuron generates no spike unless its internal potential exceeds...

Design of a Multiplier for Similar Base Numbers Without Converting Base Using a Data Oriented Memory

One the challenging in hardware performance is to designing a high speed calculating unit. The higher of calculations speeds in a computer system  will be pointed out in terms of performance. As a result, designing a high speed calculating unit is of utmost importance. In this paper, we start design whit this knowledge that one multiplier made of several adder and one divider made of several su...

Associative Memory in a Simple Model of Oscillating Cortex

A generic model of oscillating cortex, which assumes "minimal" coupling justified by known anatomy, is shown to function as an associative memory, using previously developed theory. The network has explicit excitatory neurons with local inhibitory interneuron feedback that forms a set of nonlinear oscillators coupled only by long range excitatofy connections. Using a local Hebb-like learning ru...
